I’m Alex Thomas
An engineer in Cork who builds websites, web apps, AI tools and data platforms. ABB Cloud Tech is my company, and I’m the one who does the work.
I started as a freelance web developer in 2010, and since then I’ve worked across most of what a software business needs: iOS apps and serverless backends, a video-on-demand platform on AWS, and data engineering at ExpressVPN and Innovation Refunds.
Twice I’ve been responsible for the technology of an early-stage company: as lead engineer at RugThis, choosing and setting up its stack and infrastructure, and as founder of TechWalk on UCC’s IGNITE programme. That’s the job I do for clients now: the technical team, for a business that doesn’t have one.
I studied digital technology and design at DIT, then took a master’s in software engineering at Cork Institute of Technology, where I graduated in 2018 as the institute’s best overall student. I still work from Cork, with clients anywhere in Ireland and abroad.
